Every father experiences the anxiety of knowing that one day his daughter is going to do the inevitable and start dating. In addition to cleaning his shotgun, he can become her date's worst nightmare by also arming himself with the body language and interview skills necessary to figure out who the potential boyfriend is in less than 10 minutes. In Not with My Daughter!, Terry Vaughan gives dads vital information on how to decode the gestures, facial expressions, and verbal statements of all prospective boyfriends. With two daughters of his own rapidly coming of age, Vaughan realized he couldn't water-board every new boyfriend who came through his door. He came up with strategy that all dads can use to effectively "interview" and accurately assess the new men in their daughters' lives. With Terry's help, dads will learn how to master the checklist of items that will accurately assess the boyfriend within seconds; recognize how his utilization of space and volume could be indicators of aggression; uncover words that are used to hide something and those that reflect sincerity. Based on his extensive military training, Vaughan provides dads with the skills and information they need to interpret what kinds of signals boyfriends are sending out, and then do something smart and positive with the information.

Terry Vaughan has put together a marvelous old school punch in the stomach book for dads who love their daughters, love being dads and may, in our days of emotional disregard of truth, need an encouragement from yesteryear that is timeless. We love our little girls; fatherhood defines us and masculinity is a gift that sacrifices strength for right purposes. Masculinity does not exploit weakness, but honors it. Who knows better what consequences await children with abdicating parents? If you listen to Hollywood, it is clear that a 15 year old girl knows far more about life than her 40 year old father, but if you listen to the tears of heartbreak, betrayal, and victims of sexual assaults, wisdom speaks with the force of truth. In a world afraid to discern, Terry Vaughan puts himself on the line with a "here I am" style of writing, that gives you the impression that a good and trusted friend has come to your home, and will sit with you and share wisdom that can only lead to your daughter's safety and her love of you for being a father just when she needs it most.
The language is blunt, and the pace moves well. He is a talented writer who gives the impression that the topic, itself, is more important than impressing the reader with his skills. Funny at times, poignant at others, he even gives resources and practical advice.
I teach deception detection to law enforcement and the private sector, and from my experiences in the world of child abuse, I have conducted more than 6,000 interviews. I have developed an entire section of analysis dedicated to women who have been sexually abused, as their speech relates, at times, something that is all but impossible to communicate.
In many of the cases where teenaged girls were victimized, fathers were either absent, or emotionally and intellectually absent. Some who were present felt that they had no authority over their teenaged daughter's love interest, and felt, intuitively, that the young man who harmed her had 'telegraphed' his intentions through his words. Terry Vaughan gives such dads the impetus to assert himself, in spite of a world that has condemned masculinity. The rape epidemic in Sweden speaks volumes to how fathers can, and must learn practical ways to keep their daughters safe.
We adore them when they are young and often fear them when they become teenagers, but they need the protective love that only a father can give in spite of appearing grown up: they are still our little girls.
I recommend this book for all fathers of little girls, especially while they are still young, but I also find this to be a good book for fathers of young boys, who wish to teach their sons honor, respect and duty.
It is a face paced read, interesting throughout, and at any given chapter, the reader will often want 'more' to the topic. The language is unashamedly pointed.
Indulgent and abdicating fathers often learn too late, the bitterness of the life long scars that resulted from not protecting his precious little girl from harm.

Not with My Daughter A Dad Guide to Screening Dates and Boyfriends (Audible Audio Edition) Terry Vaughan Julian Elfer Audible Studios Books Reviews
Bravo Terry Vaughan! Not only are you a great shot, an entertaining and informative speaker, one heck of a TV personality, (and brilliant on radio I might add) you're a solid, loving Dad! Love this book!
LOVED this book!!! I started following Terry when he was on the show Top Shot years ago because it caught my eye that he was an English Royal Commando. I’ve been fortunate enough to attend one of his speaking events and now that I’ve read his book it’s just like listening to him talk - entertaining, humorous but informative! I’m ordering this book for everyone in my family, not just the men because it’s hilarious and I know they’ll enjoy it.
I have attended two of Mr. Vaughan's courses. The one day and the three day. Maybe that is why I kept hearing that British accent as I was reading and laughing my way through it!! This book is not just for dads. It is for anyone who wants or needs (as in my case) to discover what an individual is feeling/thinking while you are interacting with them. I have read Eckman, Navarro, McClish, Meyers, Walters, and a few more. Terry's style makes for an easy and entertaining read. This book is written as though we were sitting around talking shop. Science here? Why yes there is. The tools that will be gleaned from this book, with practice and tenacity, will last a lifetime. Keep studying, practicing, and learning!!! A must read. Thank you Mr. Vaughan!!!!!
As a law enforcment officer,I have had the privilage of attending several of Terry's classes on body language. He is a dynamic speaker and a very personable man with a significant amount of knowledge to share. After the last class I attended, I purchased two copies of his book, one for my daughters future step father and one for her birth father. I read one of the copies before I passed it on and the whole time I was reading the book, I could picture it as if he were again teach a class. The book will make you laugh as well as make you think about how you raise your children and the type of people that you let be a influence in their lives. Reminds you that we only get one chance to do right by our kids.
Although, I am a Mother, I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. Since meeting Mr. Vaughn in one of his classes on Body Language and watching him on Top Shots, I knew we had to get to this book! His British humor and information for reading people is all over this book! And it didn't disappoint! This just isn't for men, ladies, we can learn a lot observing people, we may be able to catch our husbands in a few fibs on occasion. (Thanks for the tips Terry!) Seriously, this is a fun, entertaining and very informative read!
I pre-ordered this book in th elate spring of 2014 and received my copies in late August. As a former Child Forensic Interviewer and Interrogator for a several government agencies, this book was of interest to me. As I read, I am not only entertained as the light-hearted title suggests a reader would be, but I find this book worthy of being used as part of my current NGO agent’s training curriculum. While fun, it delivers much information in a very readable way. Most books and professional articles on the subject read more like a Psychology textbook, but this book stands out as a great example of the modern movement toward effective adult education versus traditional methods.
Years ago, when working for a local police department, I would often suggest to victims of crime that they read Gavin DeBecker’s The Gift of Fear. I continue to consider that book a “must read’ and have now added Mr. Vaughan’s book to that very short list. It is not just for fathers; it is for everyone, especially those interested in taking personal responsibility and action regard their own safety and the safety of those around them.
